Visual Description
The Ref. 1330 is the 31 mm Must 21: a round stainless steel case with a chapter ring bezel, a silvered dial and a signed bracelet with a double folding clasp. Fellows measures it at 31 mm on all five lots we opened, and Bonhams lists 31 mm too. Most examples are all steel; Bonhams sold one with a sunburst silvered dial on a steel and gold link bracelet. The catalogs we consulted do not describe the hands or the crystal.
Reference Significance
The 1330 is the largest of the two four-digit Must 21 references that auction houses catalog repeatedly, beside the mid-size Ref. 1340. Fellows has sold it at least five times between 2016 and 2019, and Bonhams once, in 2025. Unlike the earliest Must 21 watches, whose nine-digit case numbers begin 9010 or 9011, the 1330 prints its reference separately from a lettered serial.
Historical Context
The Must 21 was introduced in 1989, according to La Souveraine's catalog. No auction or dealer catalog we found dates a Ref. 1330 to 2001 or earlier: the Fellows lots carry no date, and the Bonhams example was purchased in September 2009. The earliest date we have is from the Copenhagen retailer Chrono.dk, which listed a 1330 sold new by a Danish authorized dealer in April 2001, with its box, papers and certificate. No source we opened gives a first or last year for the reference.
What to Look For
Case back: Read the reference 1330 and the serial. The Fellows examples carry serials beginning PL; the Bonhams example, bought in 2009, a case number beginning MX.
Movement: A signed Cartier quartz movement. Fellows records the Cal. 690 on two examples and the Cal. 90.06 on two others, and Bonhams the 8-jewel Cal. 690, so either caliber is consistent with the reference.
Bracelet and clasp: Check the links for play and the double folding clasp for a firm close; ask for spare links, which Fellows and Bonhams have sold with the watch. On steel and gold bracelets, check the gold-colored links for wear at the edges.
Case: Look for dents along the case side and for scratches on the chapter ring bezel.
Papers: A Cartier guarantee or certificate is the best way to date a 1330, since none of the auction examples we found carries a date before 2009.
