Visual Description
The Ref. 81913 is a small round Santos. Fellows and Aguttes measure the case at 27 mm, in stainless steel with a gold bezel, which Aguttes gives as 18k yellow gold, and Aguttes describes a screw-down back. The dial is white or cream with Roman numerals on the examples Fellows sold, and plain anthracite with stylized hands on the one Aguttes sold. The bracelet is a signed steel and gold bracelet with a folding clasp.
Reference Significance
The 81913 is a ladies' quartz Santos Ronde. The automatic Ref. 1910 pairs the same steel and gold at 33 mm. Auction houses do not agree on its name: Fellows sells it as the Santos Ronde, Aguttes as the Santos Vendôme.
Its number is often cut short. The case number runs straight on from the reference, as in 8191300317, so listings that stop after four digits print 8191. That prefix also begins the case numbers of larger quartz Santos Rondes, among them a 33 mm steel and gold example that Fellows numbered 8191222547, so the fifth digit matters.
Historical Context
Susannah Lovis dates one example to the 1980s and Aguttes another to about 1990. Exact production years are not established.
What to Look For
Case number: It should begin 81913. A number beginning 8191 and then another digit, such as 81912 on a 33 mm example, is another reference.
Movement: The quartz should run and keep time; a stopped watch usually needs a battery or a service. Fellows catalogs the Cal. 81.
Gold parts: Look at the gold bezel and the gold links of the bracelet for wear, dents and heavy polishing.
Bracelet: Check for stretch and replaced links, and that the folding clasp closes firmly.
