Visual Description

The Ref. 1464 is a round Diabolo in 18k white gold, 32 mm across, with a bezel pavé-set with four rows of diamonds. Antiquorum describes a two-body case with a back held by six screws, 8 to 8.5 mm thick. The dial is silvered guilloché with painted radial Roman numerals, an inner ring of 24-hour Arabic numerals and a secret Cartier signature at X, under blued steel Breguet hands. It comes on an 18k white gold Cartier bracelet with a concealed double folding clasp. Monaco Legend's example also has a pavé-set crown, and Antiquorum's 2012 example has diamond-set lugs.

Reference Significance

The 1464 is the white gold, diamond-set version of the hand-wound Diabolo. The Ref. 1460 is the same 32 mm case in 18k yellow gold on the same Cal. 9P2. Antiquorum catalogs the movement with 18 jewels, rhodium-plated with "fausses côtes" decoration.

Historical Context

Monaco Legend dates its example to the 1990s, and an example Antiquorum sold in 2012 came with a guarantee recording a sale on 20 October 1995. Antiquorum dated another, sold in 2007, to the 1980s, earlier than the 1991 launch Monaco Legend gives for the Diabolo model. No source gives an end date.

What to Look For

Stones: Check that every diamond on the bezel, and on the crown or lugs where set, is present and secure.

Movement: The Cal. 9P2 should wind smoothly and keep time. Antiquorum graded one example's movement as needing an overhaul, so ask for the service history.

Bracelet: Look for stretch and replaced links, and check that the folding clasp closes firmly.

Dial: The guilloché and the 24-hour ring should be clean and crisply printed.

How to tell it apart

What separates a Ref. 1464 from its neighbors, and what to check before you buy or sell one.

What is a Cartier Diabolo Ref. 1464 worth?

Archiva has found no public sales of Ref. 1464 in the last five years that count toward a price. One sale was left out (White gold Ref. 1464 with a pavé diamond bezel and crown; gem-set and not yellow gold). The closest comparable, from November 2023 to November 2026: Ref. 1460-0 (32 mm, 18k yellow gold, hand-wound): one sale, $4,150. A guide to the neighborhood, not a price for Ref. 1464.

What is the Cartier Diabolo Ref. 1464?

A hand-wound Diabolo in 18k white gold: a 32 mm round case with a bezel pavé-set with diamonds, a silvered guilloché dial with Roman numerals and an inner ring of 24-hour numerals, blued steel Breguet hands, the Cartier Cal. 9P2 with 18 jewels, and an 18k white gold Cartier bracelet with a concealed double folding clasp. Antiquorum and Monaco Legend catalog it as the Diabolo Mécanique.

How is the 1464 different from the Ref. 1460?

By metal and setting. Both are 32 mm hand-wound Diabolos on the Cal. 9P2. The 1460 is 18k yellow gold, on a leather strap in the examples documented; the 1464 is 18k white gold with a pavé diamond bezel, on a white gold bracelet.

What should the case back read?

The reference and a case number. Monaco Legend recorded case number CC30350 and Antiquorum CC 30361, both on 1464s.

When was the 1464 made?

Monaco Legend dates its example to the 1990s, and Antiquorum sold one with a guarantee recording a sale on 20 October 1995. Antiquorum dated another to the 1980s, earlier than the 1991 launch Monaco Legend gives for the Diabolo model, so that dating is open.

What should I check before buying a Ref. 1464?

That every diamond on the bezel and any set lugs or crown is present and secure; that the white gold bracelet has no stretch and the folding clasp closes firmly; that the guilloché dial and its 24-hour ring are clean and crisp; and that the Cal. 9P2 winds and keeps time, with a service record if possible.
