Visual Description

The Ref. 820901 is the Pasha in 18k yellow gold with a smooth bezel. Monaco Legend describes the round case with a blue cabochon screw over the crown, secured to the case by a small chain, and measures it at 37.5 mm. The case back is secured by eight screws.

The dial is silvered or off-white, with Arabic numerals and a date window at 4 o'clock; Sotheby's describes a square inner chapter ring and a magnified date aperture on one example. Catalogs show the watch on a leather strap with an 18k yellow gold Cartier deployant clasp.

Reference Significance

The 820901 is the smooth-bezel version of the gold Pasha of the 1980s. The Ref. 820903 has the same 18k yellow gold case, cabochon-set screw-down crown and cal. 2824-2 with a rotating graduated bezel instead, and is cataloged at 38 mm.

Historical Context

The examples found are dated from 1986 to about 1990. Monaco Legend's, case number 0281, is dated 1986, and one sold by Sotheby's came with a Cartier guarantee dated January 1989. No source found gives the year the reference was introduced or discontinued.

What to Look For

Check that the bezel is smooth and that the case back reads 820901. Catalogs print a four-digit number beside it that varies from watch to watch, and some also print 1988 or 1989; 820901 is the number they share.

Ask for a photograph of the movement, which catalogs give as the cal. 2824-2, and check that the cabochon cap screws down over the crown with its chain in place. Measure the case: Monaco Legend and Sotheby's give 37.5 mm and Artcurial 38.5 mm.

How to tell it apart

What separates a Ref. 820901 from its neighbors, and what to check before you buy or sell one.

What is a Pasha de Cartier Ref. 820901 worth?

Archiva has found one public sale of Ref. 820901 in the last three years: $6,700 at Monaco Legend Auctions in April 2024. One sale is a rough guide, not a market price. One more sale was left out (Pasha Zodiaque with an engraved zodiac bezel, not the standard 820901). For comparison, from November 2023 to November 2026: 38 mm, 18k yellow gold, automatic (Ref. 820901, 1989 and 820904): $5,250 to $8,550, median $6,100 across 4 sales, one of them Ref. 820901.

What is the Pasha Ref. 820901?

The Pasha in 18k yellow gold with a smooth bezel and an automatic movement: a round case of about 37.5 mm with a blue cabochon screw cap over the crown, held to the case by a small chain, a case back secured by eight screws, and a silvered or off-white dial with Arabic numerals and a date. The movement is the cal. 2824-2 with 25 jewels, and catalogs show it on a leather strap with an 18k yellow gold Cartier deployant clasp.

How is the 820901 different from the 820903?

The bezel. Monaco Legend catalogs the 820901 with a smooth bezel, while the 820903 has a rotating graduated bezel. Both are 18k yellow gold automatics of the 1980s on the cal. 2824-2 with a cabochon-set screw-down crown; the 820901 is measured at 37.5 mm and the 820903 at 38 mm.

What should the case back of an 820901 read?

820901, with a four-digit number beside it that changes from watch to watch, such as 0281 on Monaco Legend's example of 1986. Catalogs set the numbers out differently: Sotheby's has printed 1988 820901 on one example and 2379 with 820901 on another, and Artcurial 1989 / 2005 with 820901. The number they all share is 820901.

What movement is in the Ref. 820901?

An automatic movement, which Monaco Legend and Sotheby's catalog as the cal. 2824-2; Sotheby's counts 25 jewels. Artcurial says only that it is automatic, so ask for a photograph of the movement.

What should I check before buying a Ref. 820901?

That the bezel is smooth, since the graduated-bezel watch is the 820903; that the blue cabochon cap screws down over the crown and keeps its small chain; that the case back reads 820901; and the movement, which catalogs give as the cal. 2824-2. Measure the case: Monaco Legend and Sotheby's give 37.5 mm, Artcurial 38.5 mm.
