Visual Description
The Ref. 2312 is the Chronoreflex in the large Tank Américaine case, in 18k white gold. Antiquorum measures it at 26 or 27 × 45 mm and 7 mm thick, Artcurial at 44 × 26 mm and Bachmann & Scher at 27 × 45 mm.
The dial is silvered, with painted radial Roman numerals and the secret Cartier signature in the X, and guilloché subsidiary dials for the chronograph registers and the date; Artcurial describes two chronograph counters and a date subdial. The chronograph is worked by square pushers. Antiquorum has sold examples with an 18k white gold Cartier buckle, and Artcurial one on a gold bracelet with a signed deployant clasp.
Reference Significance
The 2312 is the white gold chronograph of the large Américaine, the twin of the yellow gold Ref. 1730. It shares its case size with the large white gold automatic Ref. 1741. Antiquorum names the movement as the Cal. 212, a Chronoreflex movement with quartz standardization, and Monaco Legend as the Cal. 212P.
Historical Context
Bachmann & Scher dates one example to 1998, Artcurial dates one circa 2000 and Amsterdam Watch Company one circa 2001, so the reference was in production by the end of the 1990s. Antiquorum and Monaco Legend catalog others as made in the 2000s.
What to Look For
Read the case number and any papers: a dated guarantee shows whether a watch falls within Archiva's scope, which runs through about 2001.
Check the secret signature in the X, the subsidiary dials, and that the chronograph starts, stops and returns to zero from the pushers. A yellow gold case means the Ref. 1730, and an automatic with a date at 6 and no registers means the Ref. 1741. A buckle, deployant or bracelet should be signed Cartier.
