Visual Description
The 1967 is a small, curved Baignoire oval in 18k yellow gold, about 20 mm wide and 27 to 28 mm long, with a cabochon sapphire in the crown and the back held by screws. The dial is off-white or white, printed with radial Roman numerals under blued steel hands; Antiquorum notes the Cartier signature on one stroke of the X.
The watch is cataloged on an 18k yellow gold Cartier bracelet of oval links that repeat the shape of the case. Most examples have a diamond-set bezel, and Analog/Shift has sold one with diamonds on the links and clasp as well.
Reference Significance
The 1967 is the smaller of the two quartz yellow gold Baignoires on Archiva. The Ref. 1954 is about 22.5 × 31 mm and usually worn on a strap; the 1967 is about 20 × 27–28 mm and documented only on the oval-link bracelet.
Its number is easily read as a year. The hand-wound Baignoires of the 1960s, such as the London Baignoire and the Ref. 78094, are different watches.
Historical Context
Dated examples are of the 1990s, one of about 1995. Antiquorum's 2003 catalog describes a quartz 1967 as produced in the 1960s, a date no other source supports. No source consulted gives a production figure or a Cartier certificate date.
What to Look For
Check the case back for the reference and the screws, and confirm that the movement is quartz. Examine the bracelet: the oval links should be signed Cartier, without stretch at the joints. On a diamond-set bezel, look for missing or loose stones. The small oval case softens under polishing, so look for crisp edges at the bezel.
