Visual Description

The Ref. 1100 is the medium Panthère, 26 to 27 mm wide, in stainless steel with a yellow gold bezel, on a signed bracelet of steel and gold links that closes with a double folding clasp.

The dial is silvered, white or cream, with Roman numerals, Cartier's secret signature at VII, a date at 5 o'clock and a center seconds hand, read by blued steel hands under a sapphire crystal.

Reference Significance

The 1100 matches the Ref. 183949 in size, metals and movement and differs in the number on the case back and in date. Fellows catalogs both as a steel case with a yellow metal bezel, 26 to 27 mm, with the date at five.

It is the steel and gold counterpart of the stainless steel medium Ref. 1310, which also has its date at 5 o'clock, and smaller than the 29 mm steel and gold Jumbo Ref. 187957.

Historical Context

Dated examples run from about 1995 to 1998: Dorotheum dates one to about 1995, and Bachmann & Scher sold another made around 1998. The matching 183949 is dated to the 1980s.

What to Look For

Read the case back for 1100, 1100 2 or 110000 R and a serial. The movement has been cataloged as the Cal. 87.06 on most examples and as the Cal. 83 or Cal. 687 on others, so check the movement itself. The bracelet should have all its links and a double folding clasp that closes firmly, with the gold of the bezel and the bracelet matching in color. The dial should show clean Roman numerals and the secret signature at VII, the date should sit at 5 o'clock and change cleanly, and the hands should be blued.

How to tell it apart

What separates a Ref. 1100 from its neighbors, and what to check before you buy or sell one.

What is a Panthère de Cartier Ref. 1100 worth?

Archiva has found two public sales of Ref. 1100 in the last three years: $3,200 at Woolley & Wallis in January 2024 and $5,100 at Dorotheum in December 2023. Two sales are a rough guide, not a market price. For comparison, from November 2023 to November 2026: Medium or large, steel and gold, with date (Ref. 1100 and 183949): $3,650 to $4,950, median $4,250 across 8 sales, two of them Ref. 1100.

What is the Panthère Ref. 1100?

The medium Panthère in stainless steel and 18k yellow gold: a steel case 26 to 27 mm wide with a yellow gold bezel, a silvered, white or cream dial with Roman numerals, a date at 5 o'clock and a center seconds hand, blued steel hands, a sapphire crystal, a Cartier quartz movement and a signed steel and gold bracelet with a double folding clasp. Dated examples run from about 1995 to 1998.

How is the 1100 different from the 183949?

By the number on the case back and by date. Both are the medium Panthère in steel and 18k yellow gold, 26 to 27 mm wide, with a quartz movement, a date at 5 o'clock and a steel and gold bracelet. Dated 1100s run from about 1995 to 1998, while the 183949 is dated to the 1980s. Fellows catalogs both in the same words, giving the Cal. 87.06 for most 1100s and the Cal. 83 for a 183949.

What should the case back of a Ref. 1100 read?

1100, sometimes followed by a digit, and a serial: Woolley & Wallis catalogs a case numbered 1100 2 26371. The long form of the number, 110000 R, also appears on a 27 mm example with the date at five. A case back reading 183949 belongs to the earlier Ref. 183949.

Which caliber is in the Ref. 1100?

A Cartier quartz caliber with quick date set, cataloged three ways. Fellows has cataloged four examples with the Cal. 87.06, one numbered 1100 2 with the Cal. 83 and one with the Cal. 687. Look at the movement itself before relying on a listing.

What should I check before buying a Ref. 1100?

The number on the case back; a bracelet with all its links and a double folding clasp that closes firmly; matching gold color across the bezel and the gold links; a dial with clean Roman numerals and the secret signature at VII; blued hands; a date at 5 o'clock that changes cleanly; and a quartz movement that runs. A Cartier certificate or guarantee helps date a watch.
