Visual Description

The Ref. 1120 is the small Panthère in stainless steel and 18k yellow gold. The case is steel with a gold bezel, 21 to 22 mm wide and 29 to 30 mm long, with a screwed case back and a crown set with a blue cabochon. It runs into a steel and gold bracelet that closes with a signed double folding clasp.

The dial is cream, white or silvered, with Roman numerals, a railroad minute track and Cartier's secret signature, read by blued steel sword hands under a sapphire crystal. Leland Little records the secret signature at 10 o'clock.

Reference Significance

The 1120 is the small steel and gold Panthère of the 1990s. Its size, metals and movement match the Ref. 166921, which is dated from 1984 to 1993, so the number on the case back tells an owner which page is theirs. The Ref. 1320 is the same small size in stainless steel alone.

Historical Context

Cartier introduced the Panthère in 1983. Dated 1120s run from about 1990 to 1998: Artcurial catalogs one as made about 1990, and Amsterdam Watch Company dates another to about 1998.

What to Look For

Case back: It should read 1120 followed by a serial number, as on the examples Leland Little and Hindman cataloged with serials beginning PL. A number beginning 166921 or 66921 points to the Ref. 166921.

Bracelet and clasp: The steel and gold bracelet should have all its links and a signed double folding clasp that closes firmly. Leland Little offered one with its extra links.

Dial, hands and crown: The Roman numerals and the secret signature should be crisp, the hands blued steel, and the blue cabochon in the crown intact.

Movement: It should be quartz and running. Fellows catalogs it as the Cal. 157.

How to tell it apart

What separates a Ref. 1120 from its neighbors, and what to check before you buy or sell one.

What is a Panthère de Cartier Ref. 1120 worth?

Public auction and dealer results for Ref. 1120 from November 2023 to November 2026 come to $2,850 to $4,750, with a median of $4,350 across 8 sales of this exact reference. The most recent was $6,650 at Leonard Joel in August 2026. Condition, service history, and the original box and papers move an individual watch within that range.

What is the Panthère Ref. 1120?

The small Panthère in stainless steel and 18k yellow gold: a steel case with a gold bezel, 21 to 22 mm wide and 29 to 30 mm long, a cream, white or silvered dial with Roman numerals, blued steel sword hands, a sapphire crystal, a quartz movement and a steel and gold bracelet with a signed double folding clasp. Dated examples run from about 1990 to 1998.

What should the case back of a Ref. 1120 read?

The number 1120 and a serial. Leland Little and Hindman record case backs stamped 1120 with serials beginning PL, alongside the words Water Resistant and Swiss Made. Bachmann & Scher lists one of 1995 as Ref. 1120 and, in its table, as 112 000 R, the long form of the same number.

How does the Ref. 1120 differ from the Ref. 166921?

By the number on the case back. Both are small Panthères in stainless steel and 18k yellow gold, about 22 mm wide, with a quartz movement and a steel and gold bracelet. Dated 166921s run from 1984 to 1993 and dated 1120s from about 1990 to 1998. No source found explains how the two numbers relate.

How does the Ref. 1120 differ from the Ref. 1320?

In metal. The 1320 is the small Panthère in stainless steel alone, on a steel bracelet. The 1120 has a gold bezel and a steel and gold bracelet. Fellows catalogs both on the Cartier Cal. 157 quartz movement.

What should I check before buying a Ref. 1120?

The number on the case back; a bracelet with all its links and a signed double folding clasp that closes firmly; a dial with clean Roman numerals and the secret signature; blued steel hands; the blue cabochon in the crown; and a quartz movement that runs. Cartier papers help date a watch, like the warranty papers and booklet offered with one Hindman example.
