Visual Description
The Ref. 30009 is a 38 mm Pasha chronograph in 18k yellow gold. Monaco Legend describes a unidirectional rotating bezel, a sapphire crystal, a crown and large chronograph pushers set with sapphire cabochons, and Vendôme lugs joined to a solid gold bracelet. Sotheby's notes a case back secured by eight screws.
The dial carries three counters, for constant seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours, and a date. Monaco Legend and Amsterdam Vintage Watches describe an ivory dial with an Art Deco numeral 12, luminous hour markers and blue counters; Sotheby's has cataloged silvered and white dials.
Reference Significance
The 30009 is a gold quartz chronograph in the 38 mm Pasha case. The gold Ref. 820903 has the same size and metal as a three-hand automatic on the cal. 2824-2.
Historical Context
The examples found are dated from about 1990 to about 1995: Antiquorum dates one to circa 1990, Monaco Legend one to 1991, and Sotheby's three to circa 1991, 1992 and 1995. No source found gives the year the reference was introduced or discontinued.
What to Look For
Check that the case back reads 30009; Sotheby's prints it as 30009 C or 30009C on some examples. Ask for a photograph of the quartz movement, which Monaco Legend and Sotheby's give as the cal. 053.
Check that the sapphire cabochons on the crown and pushers are in place and that the gold Cartier bracelet is present. Most catalogs measure the case at 38 mm; Sotheby's has given 38.5 mm on two examples.
