Visual Description
The Ref. 1050 is a 38 mm Pasha chronograph in stainless steel. Fellows describes a calibrated bezel.
The dial is white, cream or silvered, with three subsidiary dials and a date at 6 o'clock. Antiquorum catalogs two-tone dials with luminous dot indexes and a painted Roman 12, and Fellows and Christie's dials with Roman numerals. It is cataloged on a Cartier steel link bracelet with a double deployant clasp by Antiquorum and Hindman, and on leather or alligator straps by Antiquorum, Bonhams and Fellows.
Reference Significance
The 1050 is the steel version of the 38 mm quartz Pasha chronograph. The Ref. 1032 is the same chronograph in steel with an 18k yellow gold bezel and the Ref. 30009 the same in 18k yellow gold. The Ref. 1352 is a smaller steel quartz chronograph, 35 to 36 mm, on the Cal. 212P.
Historical Context
The dated examples run from about 1990 into the 2000s: Antiquorum dates one to circa 1990, one to the 1990s and one to the 2000s, and Bonhams one to circa 1995. No source found gives the year the reference was introduced or discontinued.
Fellows catalogs the movement as the quartz cal. 053 and Bonhams as the Cal. 055 with 22 jewels; the other catalogs found give no caliber number.
What to Look For
Read the case back for 1050 or 1050 1 and the case number beside it. Check the size: a 35 to 36 mm steel quartz chronograph is the 1352.
Check that the chronograph starts, stops and resets and that the date changes cleanly. Ask for a photograph of the quartz movement; Fellows and Bonhams give different caliber numbers.
